New Design of a Direct Solar Dryer Used for Solar Drying of Clay Bricks
Main Article Content
Abstract
A novel direct solar dryer has been manufactured and tested at the Process Engineering Laboratory (LGP) for drying clay bricks purpose. This laboratory scale is designed to dry a maximum number of clay bricks in a minimum amount of time while providing good quality to the dried product. The brick samples used in this experiment were brought from brickworks. The clay bricks are preserved and covered as much as possible during transportation to the experimental site. A range of measuring instruments is used to guarantee accurate results and control the drying process. Several experiments have been carried out to prove the efficiency of the solar dryer in drying clay bricks. The results show that the designed solar dryer can be successfully used to dry clay bricks. Furthermore, the drying time in the solar dryer is 5 hours on a normal day, which is one hour longer than drying under industrial conditions.
